The municipality of Cortes is just next to Tagbilaran. Abatan River is one of Cortes’ bountiful and beautiful gift. The river also serves as the source of living for most of the Cortesanons.
This video highlights how the people of Cortes makes a living from the Abatan River and how their ancestors fought against invaders. Princess Wadji is a symbolism of woman empowerment even in the old times.

Cortes is part of the first towns in the Bol-anong Kabilin Atong Gibahandi(BOKAG) program. Cortes is about 10 kilometers northeast of Tagbilaran City.
To enchance the tabo or market day tradition in Cortes, the tour started at the Bacong Bridge where various local products were displayed.
To get the perfect view of the Abatan River, guests rode the sampan. While on the cruise, visitors were shown demonstrations of crab trapping, nipa harvesting and fishing.
At the end of the cruise, a scenario of Princess Wadji(the river princess of Abatan) while chasing the invading pirates was shown.
Upon arrival at the port, a group of women welcomed the guests with a shower of flower petals.
At the Abatan River Theater Complex, a narration of Wadji’s story in the form of dance and martial arts movements by passionate young Cortesanons was performed.
The tour ended with local snacks and picture taking with the guests and the performers.
